For a post to look good at its destination, you set three things in the post editor: the platform, the format and the aspect ratio. You'll find this selection in the context column on the right.
Platform
The platform determines where the post belongs – for example Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn or YouTube. Exactly which platforms are available is set up by your team or your admin, so the list may differ slightly depending on your maebe account.
Format
The format describes the type of post within a platform. Typical examples are:
- Feed post – a classic post in the main stream,
- Story – a portrait post that disappears after a short while,
- Reel or short video – a moving, portrait-format video.
Here too: the available formats depend on the platform and on your account's settings.
Aspect ratio
The aspect ratio sets the shape of your media – for example square (1:1), portrait (9:16) or landscape (16:9). maebe suggests a fitting ratio depending on the format.
The aspect ratio is closely tied to cropping your images: when you pick a ratio, maebe aligns the crop frame to it. That way you avoid having important parts of the image cut off later.
What the choice does
| Choice | Effect |
|---|---|
| Platform | Sets the destination and offers the matching formats |
| Format | Determines the type of post and suggests an aspect ratio |
| Aspect ratio | Controls the shape of your media and the image crop |
Tip: It's best to set the platform and format early on – then the right aspect ratio is already in place before you crop your images, and you won't have to do anything twice.
If your account allows it, you can also prepare a post for several platforms at once. To learn how to schedule the finished post, see Planning & scheduling.
