Connect maebe to ChatGPT

Step by step: set maebe up as a custom plugin in ChatGPT's developer mode — including the limits that depend on your ChatGPT plan.

ChatGPT can be connected to your maebe team as well. The route is a little more involved than with Claude, because OpenAI creates custom connections in developer mode.

Before you start

  • The AI connector is available from the Pro plan, and an admin or owner enables it for you: Team → Members → spark icon.
  • On the ChatGPT side: the connection only works in the browser, not in the mobile app.

Connecting ChatGPT

  1. Open Settings in ChatGPT and switch on developer mode. In company accounts an administrator has to allow this first.
  2. Go to the Plugins page (chatgpt.com/plugins) and create a new plugin with the plus button.
  3. Give it a name, for example "maebe", and a short description.
  4. Enter https://mcp.maebe.app/mcp as the server address.
  5. Sign in to maebe in the window that opens and confirm which areas ChatGPT may access.
  6. Choose Scan Tools, check the tools it found and create the plugin.
  7. Install it for yourself, then pick it in the chat with @.

What works on which ChatGPT plan

OpenAI limits custom connections depending on the plan:

  • In Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts all tools work, including creating drafts. An administrator has to approve the plugin.
  • On Pro, only the read tools are available — questions about posts, dates and numbers yes, creating drafts no.
  • For Free, Plus and Go, OpenAI makes no statement; developer mode may not be there at all.
  • Deep research only reads, and agent mode doesn't use custom connections at all.

What maebe allows regardless of that is under AI connector (MCP): preparing and submitting drafts yes, publishing or approving no.

Disconnecting again

  • In ChatGPT: remove the plugin in the settings.
  • In maebe: an admin or owner takes the permission away again under Team → Members. On top of that, every connection ends when you change your password under Security and sign out all devices in the process.

If something doesn't work

  • No developer mode in sight: your ChatGPT plan doesn't allow it, or an administrator has to enable it in the company account.
  • Tools missing after a change: ChatGPT remembers the tool list from when you created the plugin. After changes on our side, run Scan Tools again or create a new plugin.
  • Nothing happens in the chat: mention the plugin explicitly with @ — ChatGPT doesn't always reach for custom connections by itself.
